The complex challenges of our time—such as the energy transition, climate change, and the security of raw material supplies—cannot be addressed without solution-oriented research that transcends the boundaries of scientific disciplines.

CSR|Berlin aims to provide a supportive framework for ongoing interdisciplinary research activities on sustainability at Freie Universität Berlin, as well as spaces and formats for initiating new interdisciplinary research questions. It is intended to enable free research on fundamental questions as well as to test promising approaches for their potential and to support their feasibility through the rapid provision of resources. In a first initial step, CSR|Berlin is relying on the combination of unique expertise in halogen chemistry in Berlin and scientists from the fields of organic chemistry, mineralogy and innovation management. They have all been working together successfully for years in a wide variety of research alliances and are used to creating unexpected connections between different fields of research.
